Target Information
Swine fibronectin type III domain containing 5 (FNDC5), also known as irisin, is a protein that is part of the FNDC5/irisin family. In pigs, FNDC5 is involved in various physiological processes, including muscle metabolism, energy expenditure, and potentially the regulation of body weight. This protein is synthesized in muscle tissue and, upon cleavage, releases irisin, which has been suggested to play a role in the conversion of white adipose tissue to beige adipose tissue, enhancing thermogenesis and energy expenditure. FNDC5/irisin may also contribute to the overall health and metabolic efficiency of swine.
