Target Information
Swine gastrotropin, also known as Ileum Bile Acid Binding Protein (IBABP), is a protein that was initially named for its role in promoting gastric acid and pepsin secretion. It is a soluble bile acid binding protein with a molecular weight of approximately 14 kDa, belonging to the family of intracellular fatty acid binding proteins (FABP) . In swine, Gastrotropin is primarily expressed in the ileum epithelial cells and aids in the transport of bile acids. It contains two bile acid binding sites that function in a positive cooperative manner. Compared to other members of the FABP family, it is more flexible, allowing larger bile acids to enter the binding sites, and it can also bind certain steroids including progesterone, with a lower affinity for fatty acids .
