Target Information
Swine growth/differentiation factor 8 (GDF-8), also known as myostatin in swine, is a member of the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily. It is a protein that negatively regulates skeletal muscle growth by suppressing both the number and size of individual muscle fibers. GDF-8 is expressed postnatally by skeletal and cardiac muscle and plays a crucial role in muscle mass regulation. It forms disulfide-linked homodimers and signals through specific receptors to control muscle development and maintenance.
