Target Information

Serum amyloid A (SAA) is a major acute phase protein. Despite ongoing debates about its exact biological roles, the widespread presence of highly homologous SAA proteins across species and their consistent response to injury or inflammation imply that SAA plays an important role. In pigs, the SAA2 transcript is predominantly induced in the liver during acute infection, likely contributing to the circulating levels of SAA.
