Target Information

Intelectin-1, also known as omentin or intestinal lactoferrin receptor, is an intelectin encoded by the porcine ITLN1 gene. Intelectin-1 functions both as a receptor for bacterial arabinogalactans and for lactoferrin. It recognizes galactofuranose in carbohydrate chains of bacterial cell walls. It is a novel adipokine produced predominantly by visceral adipose tissue that improves insulin sensitivity. Reduced levels of ITLN1 have been reported in the serum and adipose tissue of obese Meishan compared to normal weight Large White pigs.
