Target Information
Adenosine deaminase is encoded by the ADA gene in cattle. It is a predominantly cytoplasmic enzyme found in all tissues of the body where it plays an important role in the recycling of adenosine after DNA breakdown and specifically catalyzes the deamination of deoxyadenosine (dAdo) and adenosine (Ado) to deoxyinosine and inosine respectively. In the immune system, ADA is particularly important for the proper development and function of lymphocytes (white blood cells).
