Target Information
Cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (CO1), also known as mitochondrially encoded cytochrome c oxidase I (MT-CO1), is a protein that is encoded by the MT-CO1 gene in eukaryotes. CO1 is the main subunit of the cytochrome c oxidase complex, which is the third and final enzyme of the electron transport chain in mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation. Bovine Cytochrome C Oxidase Subunit 1 is encoded by the COX1 gene in cattle. It contributes to cytochrome-c oxidase activity. This gene is often used as a DNA barcode to identify animal species.
