Target Information
Dermatan sulfate epimerase (DSE), also known as DS-epi1, is an enzyme encoded by the bovine DSE gene. DSE is an epimerase required for the biosynthesis of dermatan sulfate. Dermatan sulfate is a glycosaminoglycan (GAG) found in the extracellular matrix of various tissues, including skin, blood vessels, and cartilage. DSE deficiency is a specific defect in dermatan sulfate biosynthesis. DSE deficiency is likely to affect many types of proteoglycans.
