Specifications
Target Information
Desmoglein-1 (DSG1) is a protein that plays a critical role in cell-cell adhesion within the skin epidermis. It is a calcium-binding transmembrane glycoprotein found in desmosomes. Desmosomes are specialized cell-cell junctions that provide strong adhesion between adjacent epithelial cells. Bovine Desmoglein-1 is encoded by the DSG1 gene in cattle. Polymorphism was found in a sequence of DSG1 encoding protein proximal to the external face of the plasma membrane.
