Target Information
The Melanocortin Receptor 4 (MC4R), also known as μ-opioid peptide receptor, is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) encoded by the MC4R gene in cattle. MC4R is a receptor for α-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It plays a crucial role in feeding behavior, metabolism regulation, sexual behavior, and male erectile function in mouse models. This gene can serve as a molecular marker for growth traits in Madrasin cattle and can be used to genetically optimize and improve growth.
