Target Information
Bovine Bifunctional Heparan Sulfate N-deacetylase/N-sulfotransferase 2 is encoded by the NDST2 gene in cattle. It is an essential bifunctional enzyme that catalyzes both the N-deacetylation and the N-sulfation of glucosamine (GlcNAc) of the glycosaminoglycan in heparan sulfate. N-acetylglucosamine N-deacetylases/N-sulfotransferases are hypothesized to mediate the N-deacetylation and N-sulfation of N-acetylglucosamine in heparin and heparan sulfate, respectively, resulting in higher L-iduronic acid and sulfate content in heparin than in heparan sulfate. The enzymes responsible for this process are tissue-specific.
