Target Information

N-terminal pro-atrial natriuretic peptide (NT-proANP) is a fragment of the pro-atrial natriuretic peptide (proANP) that is primarily released from the atrial myocytes in response to physiological stretch. When proANP is released, it is cleaved into two fragments: N-terminal proANP (NT-proANP) and C-terminal ANP (CT-ANP). NT-proANP, which is the biologically inactive but stable fragment, has been suggested as a valuable biomarker for identifying dogs at risk of developing or already experiencing congestive heart failure. These natriuretic peptides, like NT-proANP and its counterpart NT-proBNP, are particularly useful in the early detection and management of cardiac conditions due to their stability and presence in circulation before the onset of noticeable heart failure symptoms.
