Hydroxyproline was first isolated by Hermann Emil Fischer from hydrolyzed gelatin in 1902. It differs from proline by the presence of a hydroxyl (OH) group attached to the gamma carbon atom. As a crucial building block, hydroxyproline supports structural integrity and facilitates healing processes throughout the body.
