Target Information

Inositol trisphosphate is produced by the hydrolysis of phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2), a phospholipid found in the plasma membrane, through the action of phospholipase C (PLC). Along with diacylglycerol (DAG), IP3 serves as a second messenger molecule involved in signal transduction within biological cells.
