Target Information
PLAU, also known as urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA), is a serine protease of the trypsin family produced by smooth muscle cells, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, macrophages, and tumor cells. It plays roles in cellular invasion and tissue remodeling by catalyzing plasminogen to serine protease plasmin. It was reported in 1970s as one of the robustly induced enzymatic activities in Rous sarcoma virus (RSV)-transformed chicken cells.
