Three herpesviruses have been isolated from cyprinid fish populations, all of which have been widely spread through the global trade in live aquacultural and ornamental fish. The genomes of cyprinid herpesviruses are the largest within the order Herpesvirales, reaching up to 295 kbp. The family comprises genera such as Batrachovirus, Cyprinivirus, Ictalurivirus, and Salmonivirus.
