Aspergillus parasiticus is one of the three fungi capable of producing aflatoxin, one of the most carcinogenic naturally occurring substances. This mold is an unspecialized saprophyte, commonly found outdoors in areas with rich soil and decaying plant material, as well as in dry grain storage facilities.
