Target Information
Edwardsiella ictaluri, also referred to as enteric septicaemia of catfish, hole in the head disease, or ESC, is part of the family Hafniaceae. This bacterium is a short, gram-negative, pleomorphic rod equipped with flagella. It is responsible for causing the disease enteric septicaemia of catfish (ESC), which affects a range of fish species, including various catfish species, knifefish, and barbs. Infected fish may experience either acute septicaemia or chronic encephalitis due to this bacterial infection.
