Echinococcus granulosus, known as the hydatid worm or dog tapeworm, is a cyclophyllid cestode that resides in the small intestine of canids during its adult stage. It also has significant intermediate hosts, including livestock and humans, where it leads to cystic echinococcosis, or hydatid disease. Initially documented in Alaska, Echinococcus granulosus is distributed globally, with notable prevalence in regions of Eurasia, North and East Africa, Australia, and South America.
