Target Information

Bacteroides fragilis is a Gram-negative, anaerobic bacterium that varies in shape from pleomorphic to rod-like. The B. fragilis group is the most frequently isolated member of the Bacteroidaceae family in anaerobic infections, particularly those arising from the gastrointestinal microbiota. B. fragilis is linked to neonatal diarrhea in foals, calves, piglets, and lambs, as well as abortion in bovine, mastitis, and abscesses in cats and dogs.
