Target Information

Rickettsiae are unique bacteria responsible for several diseases, including Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Rickettsia rickettsii is a Gram-negative, intracellular, cocco-bacillus bacterium first discovered in 1902. Various tick species carry R. rickettsii, acting as vectors that transmit the pathogen to humans and dogs.
