Target Information
The dengue virus (DENV), which causes dengue fever, is a mosquito-borne virus with a single positive-stranded RNA genome. It is part of the Flavivirus genus in the Flaviviridae family. While primarily affecting non-human primates, dengue infections have also been reported in pigs, marsupials, bats, birds, horses, bovids, rodents, and dogs. This well-known pathogen consists of four serotypes: DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4. Notably, dengue virus type 4 (DENV-4) was first identified in the Americas in 1981.
