Nervous necrosis virus (NNV), which causes viral nervous necrosis (VNN), is a small non-enveloped virus within the Nodaviridae family. Nodaviruses are categorized into four genogroups based on the T4 region sequence in RNA2: barfin flounder nervous necrosis virus (BFNNV), red-spotted grouper nervous necrosis virus (RGNNV), striped jack nervous necrosis virus (SJNNV), and tiger puffer nervous necrosis virus (TPNNV).
