Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis, often referred to as Bd or the amphibian chytrid fungus, is responsible for causing chytridiomycosis in amphibians. This fungal pathogen damages the skin of frogs, toads, and other amphibians, disrupting their water and salt balance, which can ultimately lead to heart failure.
