Bovine viral diarrhea (BVD), also known as bovine virus diarrhea, is a disease of considerable economic importance affecting cattle in most countries globally. This disease is caused by the bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), which is classified under the genus Pestivirus within the family Flaviviridae. Pestiviruses are characterized as small, spherical, single-stranded RNA viruses, enveloped, with a diameter ranging from 40 to 60 nanometers.
