Target Information

Streptococcus pneumoniae is a Gram-positive encapsulated bacterium known for producing alpha-hemolysin on blood agar. It is generally regarded as a human pathogen. However, a common human serotype (23F) and sequence type (ST36) associated with invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) may also circulate in dogs. Isolates found in other examined animals appear to be adapted to their specific hosts.
