Taenia solium, known as the pork tapeworm, is part of the cyclophyllid cestode family Taeniidae. It is found worldwide, particularly in regions where pork is consumed. Taeniasis refers to an intestinal infection by the adult T. solium, typically presenting with mild or non-specific symptoms. When T. solium eggs or egg-containing proglottids are ingested and rupture within the host's intestines, larvae develop and migrate into host tissue, leading to cysticercosis.
