Salmonella is a genus of rod-shaped, gram-negative bacteria belonging to the Enterobacteriaceae family. This genus comprises two recognized species: Salmonella enterica and Salmonella bongori. These bacteria are commonly found in the digestive systems of humans and animals, particularly reptiles. Listeriosis predominantly affects feedlot or sheltered ruminants during the winter-spring season.
