Specifications
Target Information
Corticosterone is a 21-carbon steroid hormone of the corticosteroid type produced in the cortex of the adrenal glands. In many species, including amphibians, reptiles, rodents, and birds, corticosterone is a main glucocorticoid. Corticosterone is an intermediate in the steroidogenic pathway from pregnenolone to aldosterone. It is converted to aldosterone by aldosterone synthase, found in the mitochondria of glomerulosa cells in the adrenal cortex. The magnitude of increases in progesterone and corticosterone in some cats with hyperaldosteronism is likely to be clinically relevant.
