Target Information

Nitric oxide synthases (NOSs) are a group of enzymes responsible for catalyzing the production of nitric oxide (NO) from L-arginine. NO serves as a crucial signaling molecule within cells, aiding in the regulation of vascular tone, insulin secretion, airway tone, and peristalsis, as well as contributing to angiogenesis and neural development. NO causes vasodilation, which is the widening of blood vessels. This helps to regulate blood pressure and blood flow. In a guinea pig model, nitric oxide generated by NOS I and/or NOS III may function as a neuromodulator in the organ of Corti and potentially regulate cochlear blood flow.

Target/Biomarker Guinea Pig NOS3
Target Synonym Nitric oxide synthase 3; Constitutive NOS; cNOS; EC-NOS; NOS type III; NOSIII; Nitric oxide synthase, endothelial; Endothelial NOS, eNOS; NOS3
