Target Information

The cytokine tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha) plays a crucial role in mediating sepsis. It is among the cytokines that trigger the production of serum amyloid A (SAA), which is the precursor to AA amyloid. In Syrian hamster embryo cells, TNF-alpha released by activated macrophages can potentially aid the malignant transformation process initiated by low-dose alpha-particles. It also contributes to metabolic dysregulation, such as hypertriglyceridemia and cachexia in chemically induced models. Hamster TNF-α shares structural and functional similarities with rodent orthologs, enabling research tools like monoclonal antibodies for neutralization and detection in mice/rats.
