Hantaviruses are single-stranded, negative-sense RNA viruses comprising 25 antigenically distinct species. These enveloped viruses measure between 80 and 115 nm in diameter and are part of the Bunyaviridae family. Wild rodents are the primary animal species affected by these viruses.
