Target Information
Infectious hematopoietic necrosis (IHN) is a significant viral disease affecting salmonid fish. The infectious agent, Infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHNV), is a bullet-shaped RNA virus with a negative-sense single-stranded genome, belonging to the Rhabdoviridae family. IHNV reservoirs include fish that are overtly infected, as well as covert carriers in cultured, feral, or wild populations. The presence of this virus was first identified in Europe in 1987, specifically in France and Italy.
