Sapovirus belongs to a genetically diverse genus of single-stranded positive-sense RNA, non-enveloped viruses in the Caliciviridae family. Its natural hosts are humans and swine, and transmission occurs through oral/fecal contact. Sapoviruses have been identified in various mammals, such as swine, sea lions, dogs, bats, and rats.
