Equine Herpesvirus Type 2 (EHV-2) is a gamma herpesvirus that establishes lifelong infections, marked by fluctuating phases of disease reactivation and latency. It was first isolated from horses in 1963. The cytopathological effects caused by this virus are similar to those observed in cytomegalovirus infections.
