Target Information
Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is an extremely contagious viral infection that poses a significant threat to animal agriculture. The FMD virus primarily affects cloven-hoofed animals such as cows, pigs, sheep, goats, and deer, while horses, dogs, and cats remain unaffected. Due to its high transmissibility, FMD can spread rapidly among livestock. It is transmitted not only through direct contact with infected animals but also via contaminated farm equipment, vehicles, clothing, feed, and even by both domestic and wild predators.
