Ranavirus is a genus within the Iridoviridae family. While there are six other genera in this family, Ranavirus is unique in containing viruses that infect amphibians and reptiles. It is believed that ranaviruses evolved from a fish virus that subsequently adapted to infect amphibians and reptiles.
