Target Information

The monkeypox virus (MPV) is a double-stranded DNA virus known to cause MPOX disease in humans and various mammals. It is a zoonotic virus classified under the Orthopoxvirus genus, closely related to the variola, cowpox, and vaccinia viruses. The virus is believed to have originated in Africa, where it has been detected in numerous animals, including rope squirrels, tree squirrels, Gambian pouched rats, dormice, and several monkey species.
