Target Information
Canine ALOX15, or 12/15-lipoxygenase, is an enzyme that plays a significant role in the metabolism of polyunsaturated fatty acids, particularly arachidonic acid, and is implicated in various physiological and pathological processes. It is constitutively expressed in several cell types, including reticulocytes, eosinophils, and dendritic cells, and its expression can be induced by cytokines such as IL-4 and IL-13. ALOX15 has both pro- and anti-inflammatory effects, its metabolite 12(S)-HETE is a potent pro-inflammatory chemoattractant for neutrophils and leukocytes, while other metabolites can exhibit anti-inflammatory properties. This enzyme is also associated with vascular diseases, diabetes, neurological disorders like Alzheimer's, and obesity.
