Target Information
Canine CDGSH iron-sulfur domain 1 (CISD1) is a protein that contains a CDGSH iron-sulfur domain and is known to bind a redox-active [2Fe-2S] cluster. This protein is localized to the outer membrane of mitochondria and is thought to play a role in the regulation of oxidation. CISD1 has been implicated in a variety of diseases, including diabetes, obesity, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and neurodegeneration in humans. It is involved in the regulation of mitochondrial iron and reactive oxygen species (ROS) metabolism, a function that is proposed to be conserved among plant and animal NEET proteins. In dogs, CISD1 may serve a similar role, influencing cellular redox balance and potentially playing a part in diseases associated with mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress.
