Target Information
Porcine superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) is a critical antioxidant enzyme that plays a key role in cellular defense against oxidative stress by catalyzing the dismutation of superoxide radicals into molecular oxygen and hydrogen peroxide. Predominantly located in the cytosol and mitochondria, SOD1 acts as a first line of defense against oxidative damage caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS). Dysregulation of SOD1 activity has been implicated in the pathogenesis of various diseases, including cancer and neurodegenerative disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). In pigs, SOD1 is essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis under conditions of oxidative stress, and its activity or expression levels can have significant implications for health and disease.
