Canine collagen III is a critical component of the extracellular matrix, particularly implicated in the pathogenesis of collagen type III glomerulopathy, a rare renal disease characterized by the accumulation of irregular type III collagen fibrils in the glomerular capillary walls and mesangium. This condition leads to proteinuria, nephrotic syndrome, hypertension, and eventually chronic renal failure, with a clinical course that mirrors the juvenile form of the disease in humans.
