Target Information
Cyclin H, also known as cyclin-dependent kinase 8 (CDK8), is a protein that functions as part of the CDK-activating kinase (CAK) complex, which is involved in the activation of cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs). This complex is crucial for the progression of the cell cycle, particularly in the transition from G1 to S phase. Cyclin H interacts with CDK7 to form the catalytic core of CAK, which then phosphorylates and activates other CDK-cyclin complexes. In addition to its role in cell cycle regulation, cyclin H is also implicated in the regulation of gene expression. It is a component of the Mediator complex, a large protein complex that modulates the transcriptional activity of RNA polymerase II. Cyclin H's involvement in both cell cycle progression and transcriptional regulation makes it a multifunctional protein with significant influence over cellular processes.
