Target Information
Porcine CD80, also known as porcine B7-1, is a crucial co-stimulatory molecule expressed on the surface of antigen-presenting cells, such as dendritic cells, macrophages, and B cells. It plays a significant role in the regulation of the immune response by interacting with its receptor, CD28, on T cells. This interaction is essential for T cell activation, proliferation, and differentiation. CD80 is involved in the costimulation process, which is a secondary signal required for full T cell activation after the initial antigen recognition. In the absence of CD80, T cells may become anergic or tolerant, which can be detrimental to the host's ability to mount an effective immune response. Understanding the molecular and functional characteristics of porcine CD80 is vital for developing strategies to enhance or modulate the immune response in pigs, particularly in the context of infectious diseases and vaccine development.
