Target Information
Porcine heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein D (HNRNPD), also known as AUF1, is a multifunctional RNA-binding protein that plays a critical role in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. It is heavily involved in the control of mRNA stability and translation, with a significant impact on various cellular processes such as cell cycle regulation, proliferation, and response to stress. Recent studies have highlighted the association of HNRNPD with poor prognosis in oral cancer, indicating its potential as a therapeutic target. The protein's function extends beyond RNA metabolism, as it has been shown to interact with other proteins and influence cellular networks related to DNA repair, replication, chromatin remodeling, and cellular proliferation. In pigs, HNRNPD may serve as a significant factor in the development and progression of diseases, particularly those with a neoplastic basis. Its overexpression has been noted in precancerous conditions and is linked to the deregulation of key cellular mRNAs, including those of c-myc, c-jun, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), which are known to promote tumorigenesis. The protein's ability to activate the transcription promoter for the telomerase catalytic subunit _TERT_ also suggests a role in maintaining telomere length and attenuating inflammatory cytokine expression.
