Target Information
Cytochrome C Oxidase Subunit II is encoded by the COX2 gene in sheep. Cytochrome c oxidase subunit II, known as COXII, COX2, COII, or MT-CO2, is the second subunit of cytochrome c oxidase. It is one of the three subunits encoded by mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) (MT-CO1, MT-CO2, MT-CO3) in respiratory complex IV. MT-CO2 is crucial for forming the functional core of cytochrome c oxidase and plays a vital role in transferring electrons from cytochrome c to the bimetallic center of catalytic subunit 1 through its binuclear copper A center.
