Plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 is the main inhibitor of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and urokinase (uPA). It is also known as SERPINE1. PAI-1 is mainly produced by endothelial cells, but is also secreted by other tissue types, such as adipose tissue.
