Target Information

LBP is recognized as a marker in the acute phase response (APR), a systemic inflammatory response that is usually activated after infection or other tissue damage. Studies have shown that LBP may have a regulatory role in the APR, such as influencing immune cell function through the formation of high-affinity complexes with LPS. In sheep, lipopolysaccharide binding protein (LBP) is a protein encoded by the LBP gene. LBP is a soluble acute-phase protein that binds to bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to trigger immune responses by presenting LPS to vital cell surface pattern recognition receptors, specifically CD14 and TLR4.
