Target Information
Apolipoprotein M is encoded by the APOM gene in pigs. APOM plays an important anti-atherogenic and antioxidant role by improving cholesterol efflux, reducing oxidised LDL-mediated tissue damage and inhibiting HDL oxidation. It is a novel apolipoprotein mainly found in plasma high-density lipoprotein and is involved in lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. Research has shown that the porcine APOM gene is predominantly expressed in liver and kidney tissue.
