Target Information
Calpain-1 Catalytic Subunit is encoded by the CAPN1 gene in pigs. It is a member of calpains whch are a group of calcium-activated neutral proteases found intracellularly. They play essential roles in protein degradation, cytoskeletal remodeling, and signal transduction. The mammalian calpains include ubiquitous, stomach-specific, and muscle-specific proteins. The CAPN1 gene is located on SSC2. It may be associated with meat redness in pigs.
